It's Over Johnny....The Demise of Jehovah's Witnesses
by ctrwtf ini think i've mentioned before that from time to time my commute on the bqe takes me past the old factory buildings and the soon to be former headquarters building.
i was struck the other day with how shabby they've become.
even 25 columbia heights, still currently occupied, its facade is filthy.

Separation of Powers
No reason to keep the property up....they have other fish to fry and buildings to build....the current properties in Brooklyn are only valuable due to their location. NO ONE.......Absolutely NO ONE will buy the property to publish magazines....they will update the facade and tear out the interiors to make nice, plush, expensive condos with the priceless views of Manhattan skyline.... -

Living in the era of "Generation Me"
by campaign of hate inthis really got to me today at the wt study.. i am not ashamed to admit, i am part of that "generation".. you get one role of the dice in this life, you got to take what you can now, in order to have a good quality life later.. i agree, we need to help and show love to our fellow man.
but, not when this becomes the priority above our own needs, wants and aspirations.. welcome to "generation me" wt, this is my time.. peace out..

Separation of Powers
This article could have easily been written in the 60's. It has every 1975 line that I read way back when, including the ME generation.....Tell me, what generation in modern day society did not think of themselves first.... -

Ayn Rand - Opinions?
by cappytan infor those of you familiar with ayn rand and her ideas on morality, rationality and reason, what is your opinion of those ideas?.
i'm talking about her actual ideas, not the ideals that libertarianism has adopted and, in some cases, perverted.
do you think she's a charlatan?

Separation of Powers
When Nietzche got out of the shower, his mirror was fogged over...when he wiped it clean of every vestige of moisture, he saw Ayn Rand staring back at him. Their philosophies are so much the same, one muted over by convention, the other a blatant attempt at self-promotion -

Separation of Powers
There is a nice zen koan that has helped me put the "what ifs" out of my mind.
It is the story of a tortoise who asks a guru about his path. The guru says, "you must remember, you are not ONE person, you are THREE. The FIRST you, is the you of the past. The you that sometimes embarrasses you. The you that has made mistakes and some of them awful. But, along with the mistakes there has been accomplishments as well. It is the you that has brought you to the PRESENT you. The you, you are now. The you that must make decisions for the now, for the present. He cannot reach back to the past you. The past you is gone. The decisions that he made can not be undone because you are the result of THAT you.
What about the third me? What is he?
He is you in the FUTURE. The PRESENT you will have a large impact on the FUTURE you. So, forget your PAST you and build to make your FUTURE you what you would like to be in the PRESENT."

Preaching... a requirement for baptism?
by StarTrekAngel inso i have been doing some reading lately.
i have yet to bump into the text that show that preaching is a requirement to qualify for baptism.
in fact, i have read more paragraphs that say otherwise.

Separation of Powers
Look in the Our Ministry (Organization book) under the steps to get baptized......you will probably find what you are looking for....I think there is an expression like "No doubt you will want to share what you learn....." -

Mom says, "CO says there's only 15 years left!"
by Separation of Powers ini don't typically hear from my mom often, but i tell you, over the past couple of weeks, i have heard from her several times.
you heard the comment about "our way of worship will be altered" and thank you for your posts by the way....but yesterday, she calls and is asking about the kids and then, in typical jw fashion mind you, says:.
"you know, you should really get back to meetings.

Separation of Powers
Well, it just keeps getting better! I don't typically hear from my mom often, but I tell you, over the past couple of weeks, I have heard from her several times. You heard the comment about "our way of worship will be altered" and thank you for your posts by the way....but yesterday, she calls and is asking about the kids and then, in typical JW fashion mind you, says:
"You know, you should really get back to meetings. The kids need it. This system is only getting worse. When the CO was here, he said that 'we believe that the system can't go on more than 15 years! and you know how fast time goes by. That means the kids won't even get to be ?? (ages hidden to protect the innocent) before the end of the system."
Needless to say, I actually started to laugh....I shouldn't have said it, but I sarcastically said, "Are you kidding me Mom? Back in the late 60's, dad used to question taking us to the dentist because the end was right around the corner. THAT kind of crap aint gonna happen to my kids because the "end is SOOO close!"
